The Rural Missourian

These are the musings, aphorisms, and reflections of a grizzle-bearded pastor and novice historian living in the wooded hills of rural Missouri or Mizzurah as some put it in these parts. Included, as I am able to mine the riches of history, are the musings of various pioneers who, through toilsome work and dogged determination, blazed the difficult paths that built our once prosperous, agrarian culture. Soli Deo Gloria!

Christian Unity through Biblical Covenanting

My fellow Christian agrarians and family in Christ (being truly one in the same), since it has been a week since I last posted, I thought I had better get with it. Blog duty can be quite demanding.

In addressing the biblical mechanism by which the Lord’s people come together to build Christian community and steward the land He so graciously gives us, I have written an article, Christian Unity Through Biblical Covenanting, which is based upon a sermon I preached this last Lord’s Day. Since it is far too big to post directly into my blog, you will need to go to the link below to it. It is in PDF format so you can read and/or print it.

Thank you very much for your willingness to share your sermon with us out on the internet. I will print it out for reading and discussion at home.

I read your sermon today and I liked it very much. I see the wisdom and truth in what you have said.

My question is HOW does a Christian go about doing what you say? We are so far removed from this kind of Biblical unity that I'm uncertain how to get there from here. Are there examples of covenant communities where this is being done and working? Is this being done at your church?

The practical aspects of implementing this approach to life are difficult for me to grasp. Where does one start?

Pastor Tom,

Thank you for the truth the LORD uses you to preach, to exhort His people to faithfulness and trust in Him alone. That is the only way any covenant community can be established, survive and thrive, especially in a culture that hates such things Psalms 11:1-3. For that is when He gets the glory due Him for having done it.

Soli Deo Gloria,
